Ratings
Max Payne 2 was well received as the original and is considered a classic with many fans divided on which is the better game. The PS2 again couldn't really handle the texture heavy nature of Max Payne 2 and was bad mouthed even more than the original. Some critics said the game was too short, personally I enjoy a short rollercoaster rather than them dragging the game out with stupid difficulties just for the sake of it. The current ratings as I'm writing this (Aug. 09) is PS2: 73%, PC: 86%, Xbox: 84%.
Plot Summary
Two years after the first game Max is working as a NYPD Detective investigating a case which involves a gang called the cleaners. He runs into Mona Sax, assumed dead after the first game, and gets deep into the case which involves him being a target of the gang and anyone higher up in the hierarchy. Needless to say, there's trouble and a lot of shooting. The story is again told with lovely graphic novels and the great style from Max Payne the original continues.
After completing the game
Max Payne and Max Payne 2 has and had a hefty modscene. Numerous modifications altered the gameplay, sometimes to Polar Bear sick consequences, but all the time incredibly fun. Many of these modders are now employed by game development companies, but their mods are still available to extend the fun for Max Payne. Check out our Modifications section to learn more on how you can expand the gameplay of the game. (PC version only).
