It looks like Smilegate and Microsoft are finally ready to unveil more CrossFire X! The game has been on our radar ever since Remedy announced it was hired by Smilegate to help develop a singleplayer campaign for the esteemed First Person Shooter. While Smilegate’s shooter enjoys huge popularity in Asia, it’s relatively unknown here in the west. With CrossFire X, they’re planning to shift the balance!
Over the last few days, the game’s website has gone live. Along with a plethora of social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Discord). This indicated something was about to happen. Luckily for us, we didn’t need to wait long: Details for an open and closed beta have been disclosed!
What exactly is CrossFire X?
CrossFire X delivers an intense (online) first-person shooter experience, said to mimic the classic Counter-Strike experience. Players are immersed in a sprawling global conflict between the world’s two most formidable private military factions. Complete objective-based missions across a variety of classic and innovative modes featuring tightly crafted gameplay and cinematic visuals. CrossFire X’s multiplayer is free to play.
Remedy was hired by Smilegate to help develop a singleplayer campaign for the game. Details about this campaign are scarce. The marketing (at least for now) seems to mainly revolve around the multiplayer aspect. In the past, Remedy already revealed their campaign would be powered by their Northlight engine (as demonstrated in this trailer) and thus a separate release is not unthinkable.
Closed & Open Beta
Microsoft and Smilegate announced earlier today there will be a closed beta on Xbox One later this week, available through the Xbox Insider Program. Afterward, it’ll be opened to the public in an Open BETA.
The closed BETA has limited availability and will be managed through the Xbox Insider Program. In order to join, you will need to download and install the Xbox Insider Hub on your Xbox and request to join the CrossfireX BETA.
For the open beta, simply navigate to the Microsoft Store from your Xbox Dashboard and download the Beta starting June 25. You can enjoy the beta until June 28.
As a reward, all players that participate in the CrossfireX BETA will receive an exclusive branded Axe. You will find this Axe in your inventory to try during the BETA, and once the game launches in full, it’ll also be added to your account.
