The return of the bald, tattooed Greek God just got a bit more glorious. God of War took home the ‘Game of the Year’ award at The Game Awards 2018.
This came perhaps a bit unexpected, considering Red Dead Redemption 2 has received an insane amount of critical acclaim ever since it hit the market. While that game also won its fair share of awards during the ceremony, it was beaten (and rightfully so) by God of War.
I was fortunate to find the time in this ever so busy year to finish both of them from start to finish. It’s not often we are blessed twice with such amazing, captivating experiences. Both games have their own strengths and weaknesses and both features an incredible layered narrative and atmosphere. With that being said, I’m totally OK with God of War winning the award. It managed to totally re-invent and revolutionize itself, while still moving the story forward. Red Dead Redemption 2, on the other hand, is a accumulation of everything Rockstar Games has done so far (and then some more). And if you’re familiar with their library of games, that’s no child’s play. I’m currently writing my review on that game, with some contributions from community members and game developers, but it will take me some time to get it done.
I think we can easily agree 2018 definitely was a golden year for gaming with some of the biggest releases ever. Here are my personal favorites:
Did any of the games above managed to get into your top 5 as well? I’m curious to know what games touched you guys this year. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a game from 2018, just freely share your story below in the comments.
