Thanks to our friends at The Sudden Stop, I have learned about the existence of a mod that is so bizarre it left me in awe for a considerable amount of time. This is something I just had to share with you – share the fun! Let’s start the week weird, shall we?
The mod is named “Half-Payne” and is a mash-up between two classic shooter games; Max Payne & Half-Life. Like May Payne, the Half-Life engine allows for deep game file modifications and has spawned some of the most renowned projects (Counter-Strike, anyone?). The mods, which uses Half-Life as a base, introduces various gameplay tweaks and additions. From health pick-ups in the form of Painkillers to shoot-dodging and the integration of bullet time, many elements from the Max Payne franchise are ported over.
The mod is not a literal interpretation of how Max Payne typed gun-play would pan out in the Half-Life universe. Instead, the creator has built in many goofs and tributes too. It adds a dream sequence to one of the levels ( a tribute to the Nightmare levels from Max Payne) as well as a mode in which random gameplay modifiers spice up the action.
A trailer below will visualize you how all that would look. If you’re interested to actually play it, you can download it by going to the mod its MODDB page by licking here.
