Mass Effect: Andromeda was released to the general public today. After a development cycle of 5 years, gamers will finally be able to explore the brand new Andromeda galaxy for a place for humanity to survive. The Mass Effect games have always been story-rich experiences and thus the new entry in the franchise is one I look forward to be playing. The big gaming websites are slowly but surely releasing their opinion pieces and it seems the game is receiving generally mixed reviews. While the animations, interface and mission design are said to be particularly ill executed, the overall atmosphere should be right. The bad lip-sync and poor animations were already pointed out by gamers before, but Bioware stated it was a bug at the time and would be fixed in the final game.
“Andromeda still offers a great sense of exploration and discovery, a good adventure and plenty of content, but it’s just a shadow of what the series was. The plot, the narrative, the tech… many aspects are not at the level you would expect, but if you are a big fan of the series, you’ll still enjoy it.” – Vandal Online, 78/100
I have to say this has gotten me a bit worried though. Mass Effect: Andromeda is one of the few story-rich games to be released this year and it would be a bummer if it would not live up to the expectations. The game will release a wee bit later in Europe, so I just have to wait and see. More on this later.
