PayneReactor is a non-profit, non-commercial website that’s dedicated to story-rich videogames. We exist out of love for these videogames and from the support of those that are interested in them. With the help of the website, we try to connect with the developers and fans of these videogames, bringing them together and giving them a platform to share their passion and thoughts. Through the use of the website, there might be occasions where your personal data is being used and/or stored. Occasions include, but are not limited to, emails, newsletters, chat areas, (comment) forums, communities, sweepstakes, and contests. Our Privacy Policy will explain how data is collected and how it is being used.

1. Personal data collection and purposes.

“Personal Information” means information that is about any individual, or from which any individual is directly or indirectly identifiable.

“Process”, “Processing” or “Processed” means anything that is done with any Personal Information, whether or not by automated means, such as collection, recording, organization, structuring, storage, adaptation or alteration, retrieval, consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available, alignment or combination, restriction, erasure or destruction.

We do not collect or otherwise process Personal Information about race or ethnicity, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, physical or mental health, sexual life, any actual or alleged criminal offences or penalties, or any other information that may be deemed to be sensitive.

This Policy may be amended or updated from time to time to reflect changes in our practices with respect to the processing of your information, or changes in applicable law. We encourage you to read this Policy carefully, and to regularly check this page to review any changes we might make.

1.1 Comments.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. 1.2 Media.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

1.3 Cookies.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

PayneReactor uses Cloudflare. Cloudflare is a WordPress performance optimization framework designed to improve page speed and user experience. In more detail, using the site lets you benefit from caching – a process of storing data from previous requests to be re-used for subsequent requests. The browser cache is set to 1 day.

If you want to disable cookies you need to change your website browser settings to reject cookies. How you can do this will depend on the browser you use. This means you might lose functionality that might enhance your user experience.

1.4 Analytics

PayneReactor makes use of Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and visitor behavior information in an anonymous form.

The anonymous information generated by Google Analytics cookies about your use of this website is transmitted to Google. This information is processed to compile statistical reports on website activity for this site only. PayneReactor uses these reports to evaluate aggregate visitor usage so that we can optimize the content, to better meet your needs. This information is only processed in a way that does not identify anyone. 1.5 Embedded content from other websites.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

2. Data sharing.

The personal data is only accessible by members of the PayneReactor team. Personal Data is not actively shared with any third party. Data can be shared upon request by legal and regulatory authorities, law enforcement agencies or court. Data can also be shared to sponsors of sweepstakes and prize draws.

3. Data retention.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

4. Data rights and access.

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Erasure requests can be sent in to “webmaster-at-paynereactor-dot com”.

5. Data protection.

We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect your data against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure, unauthorized access, and other unlawful or unauthorized forms of Processing, in accordance with applicable law. In certain instances we may use Secure Sockets Layer encryption and/or transfer certain User Information in a non-human readable format to provide protection. However, we cannot guarantee there will not be a breach, and we are not responsible for any breach of security or for the actions of any third parties.

Because the internet is an open system, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will implement reasonable measures to protect your information, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to us using the internet. Any such transmission is at your own risk and you are responsible for ensuring that any Personal Information that you send to us are sent securely.
