While I was sleeping, IGN and Remedy took the lid off and revealed the first details about Control’s upcoming DLC ‘The Foundation’. There’s something magical about these midnight reveals. You wake up with a huge smile on your face, still buzzed, only to get to work and try to bring you the news as fast as possible.
The release date
Let’s start with the bad news first, just to get it out of the way. The Foundation is scheduled for release on March 26 for Playstation 4 and PC (Epic Store). However, for those that own the game on Xbox One, you’ll gonna have to wait a little longer. On Xbox One, The Foundation is scheduled for release on June 25th. Yikes! This means apart from having an exclusive side-mission, PlayStation will also get the DLC packages first.
The narrative
With that out of the way, let’s get back to the good stuff. The Foundation will take place after the events of the main game. As you might remember, Helen Marshall inexplicably vanished during the game. Late director Trench has given her orders to venture deep beneath the Oldest House for a mission of her own. The Board called upon Jesse, as the Astral Plane is seemingly colliding with our reality, to travel through the caverns of the Foundation to eliminate whatever threat she might find there. The missing Head of Operations, Helen Marshall, is said to hold some answers to the mysteries surrounding this threat.
According to IGN’s preview of The Foundation, the place is littered with new mysteries and puzzles (so-called “Rituals”) to solve. Awesome!
The powers
As part of The Foundation, Remedy’s adding new skills to Jesse’s supernatural arsenal. Exclusive to The Foundation, a new power called Shape and an upgrade to the Service Weapon called Fracture, allows Jesse to transform and shatter the Foundation’s environments.
Jesse will also have access to Shield Rush, an upgrade to the Shield ability that allows Jesse to charge at her enemies, knocking them back during combat. This upgrade will come as part of the free March update.
The enemies
The Foundation introduces us to a new type of Hiss. Hiss Sharpened, as it’s called, is a new enemy that resides in the caves under the Oldest House. This new Hiss-type is said to be particularly challenging, so get ready to put your skills to the test. According to Antonella Pounder (505 Senior Community) over at the PlayStation Blog, this new threat will approach you with their melee swings, pickaxe in hand. The Hiss Sharpened will come at you from different directions, so think about how you can use your new abilities to take them down!
The March update
Anyone who owns Control will receive a free update with a bevy of quality-of-life improvements that Remedy says should address some of the feedback players have had with the main game. The main map has been improved, and the skill tree has been expanded upon, and there’s been some tinkering with underused abilities. Players will also be able to reallocate ability points using Essence.
In short, there’s lots to look forward to! With all this goodness coming March 26, there should be plenty of stuff to do for those who are Homestuck now 😉 Get ready Director!
