If you haven’t visited us for a while, you might have noticed things are looking a bit different. Behind the scenes, I’ve been hard at work to make sure some overdue maintenance finally got done! Maintaining a website is easily underestimated. The current website has functionalities which are enabled by various plugins. The speed at which these are updating is relentlessly fast. More often than not, changing one thing might affect another. And thus, an infinite game of trial and error ensues. Luckily, it’s one of my more time robbing past times that – oddly enough – can be very rewarding and relaxing.
While updates are frightening, they often bring improvements or new options to the table. I figured this to be the perfect moment to make some changes to the site that would put more emphasis on what really matters: the content. In an age where news spreads faster than the clap (yes, that’s a Max Payne 3 pun), fansites are losing ground. PayneReactor has already branched out in the past, featuring other Remedy and Rockstar Games titles and narrative-driven games in general. While this is surely helping to stay relevant, the articles that attract the most visitors are our interviews, in-depth articles, and reviews. Some members from the community have reached out to me and asked if I’m also open to feature guest-posts (yes I am!). These developments have put things in a clear perspective. It’s not so much our news but our editorials you like. These types of articles are usually the ones that require the most work, but I’ll try to write more of them.
Apart from a streamlined design, the site should also load faster. Our mobile version is also improved – however, this one can still benefit from some optimizations. The site has been around for more than 20 years now. And it’s not going anywhere else but forward. I’m excited to see the whole platform evolve over time and thus I can’t wait to see how things are next year. The new generation of videogame consoles is just mere days away and should bring along exciting new opportunities to write about! Thanks for sticking with us and Stay frosty!.
