Well, here’s a headline I wasn’t expecting to be writing today. Control: Ultimate Edition is out now for Nintendo Switch. Quite unexpectedly, 505 Games and Remedy announced their award-winning game would be available on Nintendo’s handheld platform. Until now, never before has Remedy released a videogame on a Nintendo platform. That’s not much of a surprise, considering Control is a graphics-intense game. The game is way too demanding for the hardware of the Switch. So how did they pull this off?
It’s a me, Control: Ultimate Edition – Cloud Version! Remedy and 505 Games have found a way to stream Control to the Nintendo Switch. No subscription by a third-party is required to play. What is required, is an internet connection at all times so playing the game on the go is more of a challenge. However, since the game is running from the cloud, all visual splendor will be enabled (that includes ray-tracing!).
The game’s launcher (98 Mb download) can be downloaded for free from the Nintendo eShop. After your download, a 5-minute trail will commence so you can test the game on your connection for free. Pricing for the ‘Access Pass’ once the trial has been completed, can be found on the Nintendo eShop page when the 5-minute timer runs out.
I’ve downloaded and played Control: Ultimate Edition – Cloud version on the Nintendo Switch and apart from a few hick-ups, the experience is pretty smooth. Both visuals and responsiveness are pretty good. If I wouldn’t have known better, I’d said the game was running natively! For those looking to buy, click here to head to the Nintendo eShop page of the game for more information and screenshots.
