Anyone who thinks that Remedy is solely focused on the games they have in development is mistaken. Yesterday, it was announced that Remedy and Annapurna have formed a new partnership. As part of this agreement, Annapurna will cover 50% of the development costs for Control 2 and has also acquired the rights to adapt both Control and Alan Wake into film and/or TV formats.
Previously, Remedy had mentioned that they were considering either self-publishing the sequel to the 2019 hit game Control, or partnering with a publisher. The Finnish studio has now confirmed that they have opted for the former, aiming to secure a larger share of the profits once their investment is recouped. This decision also means that Remedy will take on greater responsibility for marketing the game.
Although the ownership rights to Control and Alan Wake remain with Remedy, Annapurna now has the green light to adapt the games into TV or film. A fitting partner for this venture, if you ask me, with movies like Her and Zero Dark Thirty under their belt.
Adapting their games into TV or film has long been a goal for Remedy. The developer, known for integrating live-action elements into their games, announced back in 2018 that they were working on a TV adaptation of Alan Wake. At that time, partners such as AMC and writer Peter Calloway (Legion) were attached to the project, but after years of silence, it seems that these partnerships have come to an end.
