Today is the day! CrossfireX is now available for Xbox series consoles. The Crossfire franchise is an extremely popular free-to-play multiplayer in the East. With CrossfireX developer Smilegate Entertainment is trying to get a foothold in the West too. Smilegate realized to do this it also needed to expand the narrative and introduce it to a much wider audience. Thus, it hired famed developer Remedy to create a first-person single-player campaign for the game. A first for Remedy, as the studio is mostly known for its third-person action shooters.
Remedy has been working on the single-player components (called Operation Catalyst and Operation Spectre) since 2016 and managed to finish their development duties on time. However, Smilegate postponed the release of the game by almost a year due to the pandemic which meant gamers had to wait a little longer. That wait has finally ended! If you’re subscribed to Game Pass, the first episode (Operation Catalyst) can be played for free. The second episode will have to be bought for roughly 10 dollars. The multiplayer component, however, is entirely free. So what are you waiting for? Let’s give it a go! Watch the launch trailer below while you’re downloading to get hyped.
Congratulations to both Smilegate and Remedy on the launch of CrossfireX! It has been an interesting journey to see the game come together. I haven’t been able to play yet, as I’m moving houses right now, but boy do I want to fire up that good old green box!
