Last weekend marked the 22nd anniversary of Max Payne! While the game is celebrated for its captivating slow-motion gunplay and gripping narrative, it is undoubtedly Sam Lake’s portrayal of the titular character that remains etched in fans’ memories, complete with his trademark constipated grimace. However, a loyal fan of the franchise couldn’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment as Lake’s appearance was absent in future installments of the franchise.
Gifted and passionate modder “alexsavvy” took it upon themselves to commemorate the game’s anniversary in a unique way – by restoring Sam Lake’s iconic look in Max Payne 3! Alexsavvy had to rework more than 90 models, 66 textures, and 14 hairstyles to make this work! Allowing fans to relive the nostalgia of the first game, with improved graphics and gunplay.
The mod stands as a testament to the enduring impact of Max Payne and the unyielding dedication of the gaming community to preserve its timeless charm. If you’d like to download the mod or read more about it, head here.
We haven’t seen the last of Sam Lake in gaming just yet. In October this year, Sam will be lending his likeness to portray the enigmatic character Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2!
