Music has always played a significant role in Remedy games. Remedy’s collaboration with the band Poets of the Fall began with Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, where they worked together on “Late Goodbye,” a song inspired by the poems of Sam Lake. But now the studio has taken it one step further.
“Late Goodbye” was featured in Max Payne 2’s end credits. Subsequently, for Alan Wake and Control, the Poets of the Fall produced more music (“Take Control” which plays in the Ashtray Maze has quickly become a fan favorite). In the case of Alan Wake, Remedy also incorporated existing songs into the game. Given the game’s structure as a TV show, each episode concluded with a cliffhanger and music that intensified the moment.
With the upcoming release of Alan Wake 2, Remedy has taken their musical integration to a new level. They have partnered with Fried Music, a major musical phenomenon in Finland, to compose songs specifically for the game’s end of each chapter. Every song and lyric is brand-new and specially crafted to fit within the world of Alan Wake 2 in collaboration with Sam Lake. From setting the mood to being filled with lore and mystery, the songs from this collection play a significant role in Alan Wake 2’s storytelling and plot. The outcome is a collection of songs that seamlessly complement the game and boast distinct styles.
