Remedy has just kicked off an entirely new and interesting project. It is called “Vanguard” and its aim is to challenge conventions and to prototype and ship new types of ongoing live multiplayer game experiences.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the announcement is that the Vanguard development team will develop their games using the Unreal 4 engine, rather than Remedy’s own in-house Northlight Engine. Acknowledging that the Unreal 4 engine is a much wider adapted game engine, this makes it easier to attract new talent while keeping the learning curve low.
The Vanguard team is allowed to act with a startup mentality but can enjoy the stability of an established studio. It allows for several new positions to be opened. If this sounds as music to your ears, consider visiting the Remedy website to learn more.
