The release of Alan Wake 2 is rapidly approaching, and it has been chosen as IGN’s “cover story” game for the month of September. To start things off, IGN & Remedy unveiled 11 minutes of exciting new gameplay footage. Additionally, the media outlet promised “a ton of great coverage” all month long. Exciting!
The new gameplay is from an early mission played from the perspective of FBI Agent Saga Anderson. Her quest revolves around locating the Clicker, a device well-recognized by Alan Wake enthusiasts, and her guidance leads her to the Coffee World Gift Shop. Throughout the video, it’s impossible not to be captivated by the remarkable graphic and sound design, which truly stands out. As Saga progresses on her quest, she encounters some familiar faces, notably Ahti, the janitor from Control. Furthermore, this video provides an initial peek at the characters portrayed by Peter Franzen.
The video also grants viewers a preliminary look at the game’s HUD, combat mechanics, and menu design, all of which appear to be innovative and visually appealing. Another significant addition to the gameplay is the ability to select dialogue options when engaging in conversations with the town’s residents.
Thomas Puha, the Communications Director at Remedy, mentioned on X (Twitter) that deliberate omissions were made during this playthrough, particularly in certain sections or manuscript pages. It’s worth noting that this level is said to be rich in lore and contains subtle hints about the events within and surrounding the game’s universe. Something I quickly noticed was the inclusion of the song “Sankarin Tango” from Control, which can be heard playing during the Coffee World Carousel ride battle.
