During Sony’s State of Play broadcast – which ended just moments ago – Remedy and 505 Games showed us a brand new trailer for Control’s second, post-ending, DLC titled “AWE”.
A brief new look at Alan Wake!
In that the trailer we get a brief look at our beloved hero Alan Wake! After 10 years we’re finally about to see and hear more of our light wielding hero who has mysteriously vanished. We’ve embedded the trailer right here for your convenience.
While the trailer is short on details, it closes by announcing the DLC’s release date: August 27, 2020. That’s on the exact date of Control’s first anniversary! Exactly like we’ve speculated in our previous post. Yeah, check your calendar again! That’s really soon. Whoa!
A new Service weapon form, enemy, suit and more!
Remedy’s Communications Director, Thomas Puha, did share a few more details about what to expect in this PlayStation Blog entry. A new Service Weapon form called “Surge” – a sticky grenade launcher. You’ll need it to fight a new enemy type, the “Hiss Airborne Ranger”, who can fly and attacks Jesse with a shotgun.
There’s also mention of a new Altered Item – an 80’s arcade machine – that allows the player to replay previously completed boss fights as well as the Ashtray Maze section. The arcade machine is also said to contain a new horde mode that allows for interesting loot to collect. Including a new suit for Jesse as displayed in the screenshot below.
Free August update & the Remedy multi-universe.
Puha continues; There’s a free August update coming for all Control owners that brings along a new ability upgrade, additional usability options, and more checkpoints added to some of the trickier campaign missions.
Last but not least, in the closing paragraph Puha hints the Alan Wake Easter eggs in previous Remedy videogames might not in fact be Easter eggs. This is an obvious reference to the Remedy muti-universe. Both Quantum Break and Control featured connections to each other, as well as Alan Wake. Control and Alan Wake are even confirmed to take place in the same universe! We’re bound to see some of our heroes back sooner than later! Expect more updates in the next few hours and weeks as August 27th comes closer.
