Remedy’s highly praised videogame Control has sold over 2 million copies worldwide since its launch last year. A staggering achievement for the company, as the title has now become their fastest-growing new IP since Max Payne. The sales numbers were released as part of the company’s first Capital Market Day presentation to keep both investors and analysts informed. A first for the company!
Even though Control was released last year it continues to sell strongly due to various promotions. The game is also Remedy’s very first multi-platform game. Max Payne was solely developed for PC (but later ported to other platforms by Rockstar Games) and Alan Wake and Quantum Break were both locked to PC and Xbox due to an exclusivity deal with Microsoft.
Remedy also mentioned Vanguard, their upcoming live-service multiplayer game powered by Unreal 4. The studio confirmed the title to be free-to-play and for its development costs to be entirely funded by Remedy. A publishing model has not yet been decided. Vanguard is probably one of the most exciting projects Remedy currently has in the pipeline as the studio has never done multiplayer before. While we’re eager to learn more, it seems we have to wait a little longer for new information.
Hey Ram,
Thanks for commenting! Remedy has been hiring a lot of new talent for Vanguard. I think switching to Unreal 4 for a service model is smart because maintenance and updates on the engine is in the hands of Epic. Should be good for Remedy!
Really interested in Vanguard, although I have a little concern about the facts that it’s seems permanent online and they are using Unreal 4, especially when Remedy has his own engine, but I guess they couldn’t adapt it for this new game.
