Today at their E3 2019 briefing, Microsoft revealed that CrossfireX, the first Crossfire game to come to console, will launch first on Xbox One in 2020. The Crossfire franchise has a rich history in the Eastern part of the world. With over 650 million registered players and a 10-year history, Crossfire is easily one of the biggest online franchises in the world. However, not many gamers in the west are familiar with the franchise as it has been rather confined to the East. This surprise move could change all that.
As you might be aware, Smilegate and Remedy entered a strategic partnership in which the latter studio has been made responsible for the development of the single-player campaign of Crossfire HD. Both parties were pleased in how that partnership panned out and agreed to prolong it for a future instalment. That game is CrossFire X. Remedy confirmed shortly after the reveal of the game it will once again develop the Single-player campaign. In contrary to the campaign (which will be powered by Remedy’s own NorthLight engine), Crossfire X‘s multiplayer will be powered by Unreal Engine 4.
Crossfire X will launch first on Xbox One in 2020, with unique content for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Other consoles and/or platforms might follow later.
