It was a while ago since we last heard about CrossfireX. Back in November last year, developer Smilegate Entertainment announced it was forced to postpone the release of the multiplayer shooter due to challenges that arose as the pandemic raged on. While no new release date has been given (other than ‘sometime in 2021’), Smilegate did finally break its silence by showing off various graphical improvements and multiplayer maps. Sorry Remedy fans, this update is multiplayer-focused.
Most of the graphical improvements are made possible by enhancements to lighting, reflections, and some re-worked textures. These changes do make a large difference and will undoubtedly utilize the XBos Series X’s full potential. For those unaware, CrossfireX is exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem.
Smilegate also published three videos showing three of its multiplayer maps, each built for a different game mode. While most of these game modes are the ones you usually come across in multiplayer games, the team is looking into ways to spice things up a bit. It developed a system called “Enhanced Tactical Growth”. By using this system, the player will be able to apply updates/perks (such as faster health recovery of a stronger shield) that will last for an entire round. It will allow players to eventually transform into the ‘Boogieman” which is a legendary mercenary who undoubtedly has superpowers to his disposal to have the competitive edge on the battlefield!
The developer closes its update with the promise it will be publishing more of these updates soon. As the end of 2021 is fast approaching, we’re curious when exactly we’ll learn when CrossfireX will see the light of day!
