Last night, Remedy revealed more about their latest game, FBC: Firebreak! During the Future Games Show, a brand-new gameplay trailer was shown, and the studio shared a wealth of new information about the game. SThe studio has also released a new Community First Look video, offering an in-depth look at how one of the missions in the game works.
FBC: Firebreak takes place in the same universe as Control. Both games, along with the Alan Wake franchise, are part of the Remedy Connected Universe. This means the games build on shared storylines and events. FBC: Firebreak, for instance, is set six years after the events of Control.
The Hiss are still present in the Oldest House, the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control. Jesse Faden, the Bureau’s Director, has established an emergency response team to help contain the Hiss threat. However, after years of ongoing conflict, resources have become scarce, and the response team must rely on creativity and improvisation to carry out their mission.
FBC: Firebreak is a Remedy game through and through. However, this time around, the complex storytelling and cinematic flair take a backseat to addictive gameplay. Remedy’s goal is to create a game that’s easy to pick up but remains fun in the long run—even when replaying certain missions.
They aim to achieve this by designing player abilities that complement each other, encouraging teamwork. At the same time, the game avoids mechanics that punish players for not constantly grinding or leveling up, ensuring a more balanced and accessible experience for everyone.
In the video, various gameplay segments are showcased in detail, while several developers from Remedy explain how the game works, how it’s structured, and what they’re aiming to achieve. It’s a must-watch if you’re curious about how this game sets itself apart from other first-person shooters.
For now, FBC: Firebreak is set to launch later this year on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will be available on day one through both Game Pass and PlayStation Plus.
