This just in: Rockstar Games announced it’s ending the online services for GTA V, Max Payne 3, and LA Noire on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This means the multiplayer modes for these games will be unavailable after the specified date. The story modes for these games will be unaffected. Multiplayer services for the PC versions of these games are also not affected.
Rockstar announced the news on their support website. In the article, it is stated the online services for Max Payne 3 and LA Noire will end by September 16. For GTA V the services are ending a little later, December 16. For those still playing on these platforms, this news might be a bit of a bummer. The regular content updates for GTA Online on these platforms were already ceased years ago, so the end of the services as a whole might not be much of a surprise.
However, for Max Payne 3 specifically, this is a huge loss. The multiplayer mode in Max Payne 3 was the first of its kind in the franchise. With no news of a re-release any time soon, it’s unlikely we’ll be playing the Max Payne 3 multiplayer modes on console ever again.
