In a recently released financial statements report by Remedy, the company revealed it is expecting to release their yet untitled game project (codenamed “P7”) in 2019. CEO Tero Virtala is stating in supportive writing that development on the title is progressing “according to our plans” and that “work will continue according to the agreed schedules”. In addition, the company has also delivered agreed milestones of the single-player campaign of the CrossFire 2 game for Smilegate Entertainment.
With development duties of both projects on track, and their personnel expanding quickly, the company seems to be gearing up for future projects. The following (surprising!) statement in the report seems to confirm the speculation:
“In addition to our two game projects underway, we launched the preliminary preparations for a new game project at the end of 2017.”
That means development on a third, unannounced project has officially started! Exciting news. Not much else regarding the new games is being revealed though. However, we did find the following of interest as well:
“We took significant development steps in 2017. We adopted a multi-project model and have two game projects in the production phase. Our cooperation with Smilegate on the single-player campaign for CrossFire 2 has continued, and we signed a publication agreement on the game codenamed P7, the brand and intellectual property rights of which we own, with 505 Games. The single-player campaign for CrossFire 2 is our first FPS game, which will expand the game mechanics used by us. P7, on the other hand, will create game mechanics and storytelling techniques for us with which we can offer gamers longer-lasting game experiences.”
What could this sentence mean? Does P7 inherit the games-as-a-service model? Alternatively, are the game mechanics and features designed in a way that will have you invest a lot of time? In earlier messaging regarding P7, the company informed us that the new game would revolve around “co-op play” in a world where stories can “happen”. With the planned release of P7 drawing closer, it is likely we will only be hearing more of it soon.
