The Game Informer coverage on Control continues with the latest exclusive revealing all powers Jesse will be able to unleash on her enemies. Similar to Jack Joyce in Quantum Break, Jesse Faden will be able to wield various environment manipulating powers that can aid her in battle. Unlike Quantum Break however, these powers are not just granted to the player. In order for the player to gain new abilities they are tasked with finding so called “objects of power”. These objects can be everyday items that are touched by the supernatural. Upon inspection, Jesse will be transferred to the Astral Plane. The Astral Plane is said to hold many secrets, but its here where she will have to prove she’s worthy of the power given to her (like a mini-tutorial). When returned to the Oldest House, she can then start to wreak havoc with her newly learned ability.
Another contrast to Quantum Break is that Jesse’s powers are much more grounded in reality. “Though they are crazy and extraordinary, there’s kind of this realistic flair to them,” Kasurinen says, Game Director on Control. The Game Informer journalists then describe their experience with some of the powers, informing the reader how mixing power up can lead to enormous environmental destruction.

The article closes with a deep-dive into demonstrating each and every ability through the use of animated GIFs. Jesse will be able to Melee, Launch (projectiles), Levitate, Evade, Ground Slam, Shield (summoning object around her to form a shield) and Seize (take over enemies that will help you in gunfights or, if a medic, heal you instead of the enemy). Just by reading through these powers you already get a sense of the level of strategy that can be involved in conquering various gunfights.
Embedded in the Game Informer article is an extensive video featuring Mikael Kasurinen walking you through each power individually and explain the team’s goal and vision.
Jesse’s ability to wield these powers are not without consequence. Much like Bullet-Time in Max Payne, Jesse’s continuing use of her powers will deplete a bar in the left corner of the screen. When it runs empty, she no longer is able to use her powers. In footage revealed so far, the bar gradually restores over time, indicating some sort of cooldown period is in place.
