An interesting announcement was published today, as Remedy revealed trough a press-release it has acquired the publishing rights to Alan Wake. Those rights were previously owned by Microsoft and prevented the title from being released on rivaling platforms.
Remedy has never made it a secret it would very much like to produce a sequel to Alan Wake and the acquirement of the publishing rights make it more likely the company will do so in the near future. Whether or not a sequel might be in development remains pure speculation for now. Remedy’s Head of Communications – Thomas Puha – made it clear on Twitter today the company is very much committed to wrapping up production on Control.
Further details mentioned in the announcement are that Remedy (in addition to the rights) has also received a payment of 2.5 million Euros. These funds are royalties from previously released titles as one-time income.
You might recall remedy is also working together with Contradiction Films on an Alan Wake TV show. More details about that can be found by clicking here.
